Nat + Steve: Church wedding & countryside barn in Surrey
Our wedding day was without a doubt the best day of our lives. We had a beautiful church ceremony in the quaint little village of Bramley, Surrey and held our reception at Gate Street Barn, just down the road.
Finding the perfect venue wasn’t something that we found easy. It took hours and hours of research and a fair few weekends spent wandering around beautiful venues before we decided on the incredible Gate Street Barn. We loved the relaxed vibe and felt the layout lent itself perfectly to our fun, summer vibe – plus it has a gorgeous house on site which could accommodate our full wedding party for the night of the wedding, something which can be very hard to come across.
Someone said to me before the wedding that it doesn’t really hit you that you’re getting married until you arrive at the church. Surely not, I naively thought. But it’s SO true and even thinking about the ceremony instantly brings me back to the feeling that came over me as I arrived at the church. We only had a moment or two for the girls to straighten my dress and veil at the door, but I must have said “I’m going to go” (cry) about ten times to my dad. Hilariously, I found out later that he thought I was saying “I’m going to fall”, so he dutifully clung to me all the way down the aisle to make sure I didn’t!
I was the ultimate indecisive bride but knew that pastels were going to play a big role in the theme of our wedding, and the flowers needed to bring this to life. But I worried it seemed a bit boring, we needed something else to inject fun into the décor. That’s where the gold pineapples came in – we got engaged in Hawaii so the pineapples dotted on the tables and around the venue gave a subtle nod to that, and created a fun, tropical vibe. Not content with just a little gold, we spray-painted our hula hoops and limbo set gold and put together a pretty gold & pastel backdrop for our DIY photo booth.
Anyone who knows us well knows that we are big foodies, and so we agreed from the get go that we had to find an incredible caterer. I’d stalked Kalm Kitchen on Instagram after seeing pictures of their food at a different venue, so we were both over the moon to find out they worked with Gate Street Barn. Not only is their food to die for, they go above and beyond to make your food look stunning and you have a dedicated event manager making sure everything runs perfectly from start to finish.
